What is Creative Commons?
Gaia-Haus-Hub is a Creative Commons based project
Creative Commons is a global non-for-profit organization that enables sharing and reuse of creativity and knowledge through the provision of free legal tools.
Gaia-Hus-Hub Education for Action
Bridging the gap between learning and practice
The I-Can philosophy is built upon the principle of mutual aid; Mutual aid in the community building community wealth using the untapped social capital within it.
Education, mentoring, training, peer-to-peer support through workshops is one pillar of our Catalytic Mission.
We share the view of other organisations that academic, abstract learning and research, whilst having its own intrinsic value does not easily translate into effective and transformative action on the ground. Nor is the ‘academic’ route accessible to everyone within a ‘typical community’ as a route to acquire new skills or work experience.
And it is such transformative skills and knowledge that society requires.
Into this complex problem we have introduced our Gaia-Haus-Hub project. We have set out to provide some tools for educators and learners to bridge the gap between learning and practice.
From an educational perspective we intend it to provide a real-time resource to explore new ideas and skills development through learning-by-doing. In other words, a vehicle for heuristic learning.
This is a Creative Commons based project. Indeed, an educational hub; a live and free library of CC resources for individuals and groups only for community benefit – not for profit.
Further, as a condition of membership, we require copies of all outputs from these resources to be added to our library - for others to use and evolve – and properly attributed to the original and latest iterations. Such creative resources may be inspired by literature, music, performing arts, different cultures, science, nature, technology, art and design … philosophy, faith or no faith … health and mental well-being, food or play and more
Through education, co-conceived and delivered in communities the potential wider social benefits are innumerable. Of its nature our ideal model is bottom-up, not top-down. Autonomous programmes, co-designed in the community, by the community for the community.
Supporting this ambition, we acknowledge there is potential for a key and transformative role for existing educational, voluntary, and charitable institutions. That is, Primary Schools, Secondary Education, Higher Education Colleges and Universities
We are keen to encourage Transformative Story Makers to get involved with our project.
As a society, few today would disagree that, we are keenly aware of the enormity of the complex and interwoven economic, ecological, climate and social challenges we face both globally and locally.
It is very easy to become distracted and disenchanted these days by the negative and divisive stories rooted as there are in a consumer and celebrity-led culture that is socially, culturally and politically divisive.
Our Gaia-Haus-Hub journey, our shared story, is an example of the antithesis to this, sadly, all-pervasive malignant narrative
Please join us on this journey.
